Getting married on Aruba & weddings
Foreigners can get married on Aruba!
The couple that intends to get married on Aruba must make its intentions known to the Office of Civil Registry of Aruba up to two weeks in advance.

The required forms can be printed out while being online, or you can visit the Office (see address below).

CIVIL Legal Requirements:

  1. Couple must provide from their Country of Citizenship an “apostile” report (a statistics search from the Bureau of Vital Statistics) as Proof that they are both indeed single and eligible to marry
  2. Each person must submit copies of their birth certificate with a raised seal.
  3. If either party has been divorced they must submit a copy of their divorce decree.
  4. If either party has been widowed, they must submit a copy of the death certficate.
  5. Couple must be holders of valid passports and submit with their application, copies of the pages showing all relevant details.
  6. Copies of the passport pages of their witnesses must also be submitted (if couple does not have any witnesses, we will provide them at an additional fee).
  7. All documents are to be faxed for review and then submitted by courier (i.e. FedEx) at least one (1) month prior to desired wedding date.

  8. All civil ceremonies must take place inside the City Hall (Bureau Burgerlijke Stand) in Oranjestad.
  9. Ceremonies are performed Wednesdays through Fridays.
  10. Times are from 9:30 am - 12:00pm.

Religious ceremony
Visitors can choose to hold their religious ceremony, or renew vows, on Aruba only if the couple is first legally married.

For those belonging to the Catholic Church:
  1. The prospective bride and groom should have attended pre-wedding preparation at their parish.
  2. They should bring along a permit to get married in Aruba from their priest.
  3. They should bring an official form stating that none of them were ever married in church.
  4. The couple should be married by civil law and have a wedding certificate to prove that they were married according to the laws of their country.

  6. The minimum donation to the church is US$ 20.
  7. No weddings can be held outside the church building.
For those belonging to the Protestant Church:
  1. The prospective bride and groom should marry before the civil authorities in their country; in the USA, that would be a justice of peace or a municipal judge; in Japan, that would be a prefect; In Europe, that would be the official connected with the local town hall administration in charge of weddings.
  2. They should bring along the wedding certificate or a similar official paper to prove that they were married according to the law of their country.

  4. The ceremony can be conducted in one of the church buildings or at the host hotel, on the beach or anywhere the couple prefers.
  5. The ceremony fee is US$100, which includes a wedding certificate.
  6. Non - Protestants can also be married by the Protestant Church.
For Jewish Ceremonies:
  1. Both partners must possess verification of their Judaism from the Rabbi of their hometown. (Valid Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Liberal, and Reconstructionist Jewish status certificates are accepted.)
  2. If either party has been married before in a Jewish ceremony, the Rabbi will require evidence of the Jewish divorce certificate.
  3. A petition should be submitted to the Aruba Jewish Community:

  4. The couple is responsible for a ceremony fee, payable to the Israelitische Gemeente, which covers the use of the chuppah, services, a call to the Torah (reading of the scriptures) on the Shabbat (Friday night or Saturday) preceding the wedding day. The couple will also get a gift from the Israelitische Gemeente.
  5. The ceremony can be officiated in the synagogue or any open location. The synagogue in Aruba is an independent Conservative/Reform Style congregation.
